    Autumn birthday

Hi crafters. Today I tried distress stains and distress oxides on the gel press. I started by dabbing stains in autumn colours on the gel press and spritzing with water and taking a print. I also used stencils with distress oxides and pressed the paper on. I doodled in sepia ink using a nib , when it was dry. I stamped the sentiment from Technique Tuesday agapanthus set in ground expresso distress ink. I did some gold spatters. This was adhered to Kaisercraft paper to finish it. Cluck it!

Hi crafters. Just chicken in with a fowl card for you. 🙂 Enough bad puns, but I have chickens on my mind at the moment. Since I am experimenting with the gel press, I am accumulating paper with prints that aren’t suitable for cards. There was one with fall colours that I thought would make great chickens. I used the chicken from the Technique Tuesday cheeky chickens Stamp to stamp as many chickens across the paper as possible and then cut them out (ignoring the legs). I needed somewhere for my flock to frolic. I cut a piece of pale green striped paper and layered green on it with the…

    Joy in the ordinary

Hi crafters. I experimented today with a gel press for the first time. I used bright paint from Ikea in squeeze bottles and some black acrylic I already had. I used some stencils from Dusty Attic ( dots stencil), TCW ( mini corncob and mini halftone borders) and Stamploratiins ( Coffee Cup). I also used an embossing folder from Tim Holtz- Dot matrix. The corncob was in gold so it only shows when you tilt it. I added the dot shadows with the halftone border stencil and a folded foam ink blending pad with Versafine onyx black. I used a sentiment from Neat and Tangled Scandinavian prints. The border was…

    Shiny birthday

Hi crafters. Today’s experiment is with metallic leaf. This leaf is Gold River from Mont Marte from the discount store. I wanted to coat the Hero Arts Bold Graphic Confetti Die in it. I applied double sided adhesive sheet to a piece of cardstock, cut it with the die, then laid the leaf onto the sticky surface. Warning: shut the doors and windows as this stuff takes off in the slightest breeze. I pressed it down and brushed off the unstuck bits with a soft brush. After about half an hour picking the bits up from all over the craft area, I continued. 😉 I decided the sentiment needed to…

    Keep calm!

Hi crafters. Just experimenting with using Arteza real brush markers on Bristol smooth paper today. I came up with this for The Cat’s Pajamas and Simon Says Stamp competitions. The sentiments in the TCP set  are great but perhaps this cushion better reflects the world! 🙂 I used various small stamps from TCP, MFT and mainly Flora and Fauna. These were stamped with Versafine onyx black and Versafine Clair inks, then coloured with Arteza markers and a water brush. Spaces were filled with Pitt pen dots. Keep Calm everyone! Happy crafting. Brown is the new black.

Hi crafters. A while back, Heather Telford did a post about sprinkling black brusho on a heat embossed background. The black breaks up into a multitude of colours. For today’s experiment I am trying brown – Lindy’s magical Bratwurst brown. I bought this thinking it should do the same thing as black since brown is made by mixing colours. I started with MFT typewriter text background in Versafine onyx black with clear heat embossing. I sprinkled the powder very very finely by rubbing it between my fingers (which are now a reddish brown 🙂 ). I then misted it with water. Where it has a little too much water the…

    A tale of 3 roses

Hi crafters, I’m experimenting with stamping and alcohol ink colouring today.  Since the challenge on A Blog Named Hero is  Sparkle and Shine, I thought I would try the beautiful Hero Arts rose stamp on photo paper.  I don’t have yupo paper. I stamped it in a stamping tool with Versafine Clair inks.  I heated it slightly a few times as the ink was shiny and I wondered if it was still wet.  I used alcohol markers and an old paint brush dipped in alcohol to move the colours. The alcohol moves the Versafine Clair so I tried not to touch the stamping too much. If there is too much…

    Experiments in homemade tissue tape

Hi crafters, I couldn’t resist having another try at making tissue tape. This time I took a cross stencil from the paper mill which already had repositionable xyron adhesive on the back. I applied distress stain daubers to each hole (I was feeling too lazy to ink each one 🙂 ). The stain oozed out of some but it doesn’t matter. These dried quickly. I wanted something else so I used black crosses from Flora and Fauna texture 5 set in Versafine onyx black. I cut this in strips too. These were applied in opposite directions on ivory cardstock. I needed a sentiment so I stamped Tim Holtz Simple sayings…

    Wild tissue

Hi crafters, fasten your seatbelts, it’s full experimentation mode today! Simon says Stamp Monday challenge is tape it up. I love the things people make with the printed tissue tapes so I decided to try making my own. I took recycled tissue and added stains and stamping. I did the stamping in coordinating colours (note: next time I would make the stamping more contrasting). I layered these strips onto ivory cardstock with multi medium matte. The patterns are harder to see once they are layered. I started stamping phrases with Simon says stamp grunge alphabet on strips of white tissue with Versafine onyx black. I cut the card to size…

    Distressed thank you

Hi crafters, I used the same technique for the background as the last card. I kept this card in neutral colours using brown, green, grey and black stains. I decided to stamp Tim Holtz’s glorious bouquet on the top in Versafine Clair acorn ink. The sentiment is from the same stamp set. I also stamped a small sizzix Bigz heart with the stamp and covered it with Nuovo crystal glaze. I am entering this card into Simon says Stamp Wednesday challenge: Distress it.
