    Buttoned up

Hi crafters. Sorry, one more circle card. This one uses the leftover pieces from this card. The diecut pieces were cut from a piece of watercolour paper that had been coloured and put through a WRMK embossing folder. These pieces still have the texture on them. I cut them with the Kaisercraft mixed media circles die, as well as from scrap and used the scrap piece to align the pieces as I glued them to an orange circle. To emphasise the circle shapes I stamped each with a texture stamp from Prima, Studio light, Ink Road, Lil inkers or Concord and 9th. I thought about doing the sentiment in a…

    Still rolling

Hi crafters. Another circular card. I was looking for a piece of paper to cut this card from and found this watercoloured piece in my pile. I cut it with the largest Hero Arts infinity circle die and then again with the Kaisercraft mixed media circles die. I glued that over another red circle. I used up some more plastic craft buttons by stamping Happy Birthday on them with the Simon says Stamp grunge alphabet stamps and Stazon ink. I placed each stamp on a small piece of acetate to stamp it so I could press on the edges of the curved buttons. I glued the buttons into the spaces.…

    Another birthday comes around

Hi crafters. I’m on a roll! The Simon says Stamp Monday challenge is going around in circles this week, so why not a circular card? I cut a piece of green/blue brayer paper from using the gel press, and cut it with the largest Hero Arts infinity circle die. I had been given plastic craft buttons a while ago and I thought this challenge might be a good chance to use them. I stamped all the buttons with black Stazon ink using Prima stamps: Read to me, Solar and lunar and Messy. I traced a circle inside my green circle and punched holes along the pencil line with a 1/16th…

    Playful circles

Hi crafters. I had some orange threads on my craft table that I wanted to use and this is what I came up with. The background is painted paper which was made by brushing acrylic paints on paper or dribbling them on a gel press. I stamped the background with Kaisercraft script and Studio light circles in Versafine Clair Glamorous. I cut some MFT paper and the painted paper with Hero Arts infinity circle dies and glued them together. I arranged threads behind the big circle and adhered it with double sided tape. For a sentiment I used the Simon says Stamp smile circle with coloured photo paper. Instead of…

    Birthday candles

Hi crafters. Before I ever saw a Jennifer McGuire video or ordered stamps online, I found this stamp. I was treasure hunting at the second hand shop and got lucky by finding this Hero Arts Five big candles woodblock rubber stamp. It was probably the first larger rubber stamp I owned.  I often wonder about the person who relinquishes a second hand stamp – did they go into a nursing home or worse?  I rarely see good craft items like this as crafters don’t part willingly with their items very often.  I am sharing this for the Hero Arts’ 45th anniversary as they are having a show and tell about…

    Ornate florals

Hi crafters. A bit more of a vintage card today. I started by stencilling the Prima ornate lace stencil with brown and black texture paste onto book paper. I stained the paper with distress stains when the paste was dry. I wanted to try out the Tim Holtz small tattered floral dies so cut these from book paper and stained them too. Once dry, I layered the flowers and shaped them. The book paper was a little smaller than a 5×7 card so I added brown strips on the edges and then stuck it down. I glued Kaisercraft Horizontal damask border over the edges. I should have made more flowers…

    Oval blossoms

Hi crafters. I had flower pieces left over from the last card so I made another one. I had Pinkfresh Studio dainty blossoms black outlines and coloured photo paper insets. I put double sided tape across the back of the open flower outlines and inlaid the coloured pieces. I burnished them to make sure they were stuck. Then I had to trim the double sided tape from the outside edges of the flowers. This was fiddly. There may be a better way to do this. I cut an oval from a black piece of paper and adhered acetate to the back. I cut a slightly smaller rectangle of yellow funfoam…

    Spring flowers

Hi crafters. I created this card using the colours from the Pinkfresh April challenge. I used the Pinkfresh dainty blossoms dies to cut a piece of black paper. I adhered a slightly smaller piece of acetate behind the black. I created the paper for the flowers by colouring photo paper. The yellow and the pink/red were made by lightly applying distress oxides wild honey and worn lipstick on the photo paper. The green and blue were made by colouring the photo paper with alcohol markers. Once the flowers were cut out I inlaid them onto the acetate. I created many small shaker areas with black foam tape on the back…

    Beautiful Blooms

Hi crafters. I was inspired by Sandra’s card last week where she used alcohol inks over texture paste on yupo. I decided to try that. I used a 5×7 piece of Yupo paper and applied texture paste through the Prima ornate lace stencil. I wanted to try to foil on wet embossing paste so I put some foil over it while it dried. This was a mistake. The yupo doesn’t absorb any moisture and with the foil over it, it can’t evaporate so it doesn’t dry. I ended up with wet paste for about 36 hours. As it turned out I shouldn’t have bothered. Some foil did stick. I applied…

    MFT challenges

Hi crafters. I decided to try a card for the current MFT sketch challenge 432 and the Color challenge 115. I decided to try and make some paper to use with the gel press. I tried adding these colours and using MFT background stamps to remove colour. The main piece I used here has the MFT diagonal design background stamp showing in it. Not much of the lighter blue showed in this piece so I used another piece with lighter blue to do the stripe. I used cardstock with rose gold foil on it to cut the happy birthday die cut from. I lost the dot from the i so…
