    Saved from the bin

Hi crafters. I was reading a Dina Wakley book from the library (Art journal Courage), when I came to a section about what to do if you’ve done too many layers and cluttered a page beyond redemption. I had a page like that. It is old and I was going to throw it out. It had multiple stencil layers, some done with texture paste. Dina’s solution is draw shapes and then paint over the background around it. I drew some plants with black paint pen, and scribbled some water soluble crayons around the edges. I then painted the background with white acrylic. The white blended with the crayons. I went…

    Many foil stripes

Hi crafters. I’m always on the lookout for ways to use my foil quill pen. Because it is drawn by hand, the design has to embrace the imperfect, wobbly look. When I saw this card by Lydia ( the last card), I knew this would be great to try, and great for some current challenges. I started by making a stencil using the mega J die from Altenew. I chose J as it doesn’t have any bothersome middle bits, and there are a few J’s in the family to offload it to. I took out lots of hotfoil scraps and placed them under my J stencil one at a time,…

    Take it easy

Hi crafters. I have another entry for the current Paper Smooches Challenge which is a colour challenge. I used the Design Motifs Stamp set plus a sentiment from Feel Better Sampler. I found similar inks for most of the colours but did the lilac by stamping light blue then light pink on top. Happy crafting, Christine

    Ornate frame

Hi crafters. The current challenge at Simon says Stamp Monday is ‘Frame it’. This was a great opportunity to use my Simon say Stamp A7 frame dies. I cut 2 pieces of scrap cardboard with the frames and kept the outside frames. I haven’t disconnected my dies, so cutting gives me thin and thick frames. I took the 2 outer thicker frames and stencilled texture paste onto them through the Kaisercraft Tile pattern stencil. The other set of frames hadn’t fully separated as the cardboard was thick. I glued the thin and stencilled frames onto this. This layered frame was painted with gesso, then grey/brown metallic acrylic paint. I rubbed…

    Paper bouquet

Hi crafters. I have a card for a couple of challenges. I have used 3 different Kaisercraft pattern papers for the card. I white embossed the flowers from Altenew’s Adore You onto yellow distressed paper and the leaves onto a green pattern paper. The background is a dark green marble paper. I fussy cut all the images out. I spattered white and gold onto the background and embossed a sentiment from Altenew’s Story of Us stamp set. I am entering this card in the following challenges: Altenew February Inspiration Challenge Simon says Stamp Wednesday challenge: 2 or more pattern papers. Thanks for visiting, Christine

    Pattern paper cows

Hi crafters. There is a pattern paper challenge at Simon says Stamp so I used some paper to make a birthday card. I used some beautiful Vicki Boutin mixed media paper for the landscape. The Rubber Moon and Taylored Expressions cows were stamped on pattern paper and fussy cut. The hats and sentiment also come from the Taylored Expressions If Cows Could Talk stamp set. The balloons were cut from scraps with a teeny Poppy Stamps die and given a Wink of Stellar. The Rubber Moon present was paper pieced with Basic Grey paper. I am entering this card in the following challenges: Time Out #155: Inspired by words. Simon…

    Japanese scene

Hi crafters. The Japanese lady ( wood block stamp from Judikins) on this card has been sitting on my desk for months. I was given the origami paper for the main background last week. It just seemed perfect when the Simon Says Stamp Wednesday challenge this week was: 2 or more patterned papers. I adhered the origami paper from Daiso to the top and a piece of Konnichiwa paper from Basic Grey on the bottom. I glued some raffia over the join. I recoloured my lady a bit to match the paper better, then adhered her with foam tape. Happy crafting, Christine

    Paper Smooches Color Story

Hi crafters. The current Paper Smooches challenge is a colour challenge. These are the colours: I masked some stripes and sponged on some acrylic paint in the challenge colours. They look a little darker in the photo. I had some black die cuts from the Paper Smooches Rainbow die, which I glued on. I decided to stamp the sentiment from Paper Smooches Sentiment Sampler in grey. I thought it needed more grey so I added grey lines to the stripes with an alcohol marker. Lastly, I added a few enamel dots. Happy crafting, Christine

    From the heart

Hi crafters. I have a Valentine’s Day card. I started by putting crackle paste through the Prima Finnabair Ornate Lace stencil. The paste didn’t actually crackle. When it was dry I painted the panel with turquoise, black and gold paint. I mixed some black and gold paint so it looks more like brass, and brushed that over the top. I also painted a Simon Says Stamp Burst die cut. I rubbed some gold wax over the panel as well. The Tim Holtz Heartfelt heart was coated with paint, stamped with the Hero Arts Nevermore stamp, and then covered with Crackle Accents. When it was dry, gold wax was rubbed into…

    Painted with love

Hi crafters. I’ve been experimenting with painting with acrylic, then stamping over the top. I decided to really test it with a detailed stamp. On this card I have used the Tim Holtz Glorious Bouquet stamp. First I stamped it in Fade Out ink, then I painted areas with matt acrylic. It is very detailed, so I didn’t try to be exact with colour placement. I did as much as I could work out before adding some black archival ink on top. That allowed me to work out what colour to place in the remaining areas. I then stamped a few times more with black archival ink. My stamping isn’t…
