    You are ready

Hi crafters. This week’s Simon says Stamp Monday challenge is recycle. I’ve been playing with bubble wrap to make some backgrounds. This bubble wrap had a white plastic backing which is perfect for letting the colours of alcohol ink show on it. This piece has various blues and greens on it. I used scraps of leftover foil to lay on the drying alcohol ink to give foiled accents. When I sewed it onto a cardbase the sewing machine foot rubbed off some ink, so I dabbed some more back on with a brush. The lady is from an old nameless woodblock stamp. I put a Simon says Stamp Burst diecut…

    Recycled stencil stand

Hi crafters. The Simon says Stamp Monday challenge is recycle. I thought I would share my stencil stand in it. This was inspired by a Stencil Girl video. I am one of those people who can’t park in their garage because it has a lot of “useful” things in there. I went rummaging and used an old Ikea weighted lamp base, a threaded rod left over from renovation, a lampshade frame, metal motor casing from an old dryer, metal tubing from a lamp, wire that came with the house and a few nuts and washers. This project has evolved due to it falling over early on as the weight was…

    A Pop Art Scene

Hi crafters. Sometimes an accident is the best thing in making a card.I was painting tear-off calendar pages to use in collage, and I decided to stamp the Judikins wood block 2499G stamp on it. I was stamping with Staz On which was a bit dry. When I lifted the stamp, some paper and paint tore off the top. I decided this could be an opportunity, so I stamped again on top. I thought the acrylic paint would resist water based media, so I rubbed Mustard Seed Distress Stain on the bare patches. The background is the waste from a Kaisercraft Mixed Media Circles diecut which I had glued down…

    Love letter

Hi crafters. I was inspired by a feather made by Tiffany of Southern Gals designs which she sent Kristin Van Valkenburgh to as part of a collaboration. In honour of the Simon says Stamp Monday challenge (Use something green), I have added green to my feather. I dropped alcohol inks on my feather: green on the white bits and gold mixative on the black. I liked the gold, so I painted the spine of the feather with a matching gold paint. I felt like some black for this card. The background was made by adding matt texture paste to glossy black paper. The stencil is from Little Birdie. To finish…

    Foiled face

Hi crafters. I tried foiling with Heidi Swapp toner ink today. The background was collaged bits with gesso and stencilling on top. This was probably not the best surface to try this on as it was uneven. I took the Dina Wakley Scribbled faces stencil and sponged the toner ink through with a makeup sponge. For the right side of the face, I drew using toner ink inside a refillable marker. I traced the Moroccan lattice pattern (Kaisercraft stencil) with the pen in places, on the left page. I then wondered how to get this through my small Minc. I put turquoise foil over it and folded the piece of…

    Song bird

Hi crafters. This paper had Dina Wakley gloss acrylics on it from the spray box. It was just a scrap printout on copy paper originally so you can still see the text. I added stencilling with paints and paste plus some spatters. The bird from Darkroom Door was stamped with Abandoned Coral Distress Oxide and heat embossed. The title was cut with dies from The Stamp Market. The bird and the hand drawn branches were fussy cut from kraft cardstock. I am entering this page in the Simon says Stamp Monday challenge which is ‘art journal’. Thanks for visiting, Christine

    Junk or art?

Hi crafters. This page was going to be a photo transfer but that failed so I painted over it. There are several layers of Visible Image, Stencil Girl, lettering and Michele Grant stencils. I then looked for bits to collage that might go with the background. The eye is from a book from the tip. The rest is mostly diecutting scraps from past projects. These are the inner or surrounding edges of the diecuts, i.e. the waste. The dark blue is the inner waste of a Paper Smooches happy birthday diecut. The title was cut with Tim Holtz Alphanumeric classic lower dies. Sometimes the junk has a great shape. So…

    Gold journal page

Hi crafters. Sometimes I just play with colour and pattern and see what happens. I found a spiral foam stamp at a second hand shop recently so I tried it out and joined the spirals together. I used: pink chalk paint purple paint applied to spirals with brayer gold flat sequins glued on gold metallic gel pen doodling across the background hinged gold corrugated spirals Attached with washi tape at the sides. When I finished the background, I didn’t want to cover it up too much. I couldn’t come up with a good focal point so I cut bold spirals from the gold corrugated cardboard. I hinged these and put…

    Crazy journal page

Hi crafters. I made another journal page for the Simon says Stamp Monday challenge which is ‘not a card’. I started with more paper from the spray box and added more sprays as well as Distress crackle paste using the SSS Geo leaves stencil. I found a pair of Paperdoll ladies and teamed them with a Tim Holtz Snarky Small Talk sticker. I did give one of the ladies a cross eyed look. The foliage is from Paper Smooches and I added a few glitter squares punched from scraps. I am also entering this page in the Simon says Stamp Wednesday challenge which is anything goes. Thanks for visiting, Christine

    Stencilled journal page

Hi crafters. The current Simon says Stamp Monday challenge is ‘not a card’. I took a piece of paper out of the spray box that had brown and indigo on it and worked with that. I added copper stencilling, with paste and paint using 2 Kaisercraft stencils, and the purple stencilling with the Artplorations Happy Flowers stencil. I added a wash of gold paint in the flower centres and some typed words. I would not have thought to put these colours together, but I think it worked out. I am also entering this page in the Simon says Stamp Wednesday challenge which is anything goes. Happy Crafting, Christine
