Paint swipes and encrusted sentiments

Hi crafters. Today I am guest designing for Time Out Challenges. The new challenge theme is celebrations.

I usually end up leaving the sentiment till last, but with these cards I did the sentiments first. The word celebration was making me think special and sparkly, so I decided to cover die cut words with glittery things. I took some scrap and cut out the words. I recommend using colours that coordinate with your glitter etc in case there are any blank spots. I used Altenew Script Words 2 and The Ton Bold General Greetings dies. I layered the ‘fabulous’ to make it stiffer and easier to hold. I put glue on the front and pressed on rose gold leaf. I did this in segments. Don’t worry about a full coverage. Next I used 2 chunky glitters in dusty pink and orange. I started putting glue on bare patches of the letters first and adding glitters. I added the glitters separately at first but later as a mixture. Keep adding glue to spots and then glitter until you are happy. The ‘fabulous’ has less glitter than the ‘you’ and shows more rose gold leaf. You could use sequins and maybe gems as well but I stopped at the glitter. Before the glue is completely set push any protruding bits back from the edge. It is messy but the sparkly result is worth having glitter and glue everywhere!

Once I had the words ready, I needed backgrounds. I tried some things but I wasn’t happy until I did the paint swiping. I wanted purple/pink/oranges to go with the glittery words. I put tiny amounts of matt acrylic paint on a scraper or credit card and swiped hard across some cheap cardstock. I layered a little and did a bigger area than I needed. I cut squares from these and mounted them onto black, square cardbases. I embossed the word ‘celebrate’ from the Altenew Birthday greetings Stamp set as well as a matching ‘you’ from the Impression Obsession Express Yourself Stamp set. I also cut some rose gold paper with the Altenew Fine Frames Circles die.

OK, it’s your turn. There are so many Celebrations to choose from. Let’s see what you come up with.

Thanks for visiting,
