Hi crafters. You are probably wondering what inspired this card. Well it was this dress.
I bought the dress secondhand. It is Laura Ashley and made of silk, but the thing that intrigued me was the unusual pattern on it. I’m a sucker for abstract patterns but wouldn’t have considered myself an orange lover, but it works here, and now I appreciate the colour more. (I was also surprised as I didn’t know Laura Ashley did edgy!) The only problem with the dress is I don’t go out enough to wear it more.
For the card, I studied the pattern and decided a resist might work. I stencilled on some orange bits and then some white/ off white with various stencils onto watercolour paper. I used gloss rather than matt acrylic paints. I added a bit of brown which appears in the pattern in small amounts. The brown paint was really thin and mainly smeared. Then I took a black waterbrush marker and painted sections of black over the top. I used a wet rag to wipe off the black from the stencilled acrylic paint. I then put some of the black ink on an acrylic block and diluted it with water. I painted that on the blank bits to have some grey. I’m pleased it worked. Thanks Time Out as I might use this technique again and I wouldn’t have tried it if it wasn’t for the wardrobe challenge.
I added a white heat embossed a Paper Smooches sentiment onto black cardstock and cut it with a speech bubble die and popped it up on foam tape.
